The Irish Clinical Oncology Research Group has claimed that the introduction of a new chemotherapy drug will significantly improve breast cancer treatment in Ireland.

The group said international studies had indicated that women treated with the drug had a significantly lower rate of relapse than patients undergoing standard chemotherapy.

Three hundred and seventy women are currently taking part in a similar study in Ireland that is being run by the Clinical Oncology Research Group.
