‘Ombudsman to have power to initiate garda investigations’

The proposed new Garda Ombudsman will reportedly have the power to initiate investigations without receiving a complaint.

Reports this morning said the power was one of a number of new measures added to the Garda Bill, which is expected to be published in the coming weeks.
