Salmon research 'designed to scare'
The Irish Salmon Growers Association has rejected the conclusions of a US study that found worrying levels of toxic chemicals in farmed salmon.
The research found that farmed salmon contained significantly higher levels of toxic chemicals than wild salmon.
The levels detected were so high that the researchers advised the public to eat no more than two farmed salmon meals in any month.
However, the ISGA insisted that salmon farmed in Ireland were safe to eat and claimed the US research was designed to scare people.
