Animal rights groups protest outside Irish Embassies
Animal rights campaigners have mounted demonstrations outside Irish Embassies throughout the world today in protest at the duration of live animals transports.
The protests were organised by Compassion in World Farming, which wants the European Union to introduce an eight-hour limit on journey times for live animals.
Irish Embassies are being targeted because the EU’s animal transport rules are currently being renegotiated and may be finalised during the Irish presidency of the union.
The Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association later defended Ireland’s record on live exports, claiming it was one of the best in the world.
It also accused the protestors of being misguided.
