170 jobs go in Cork

Schering Plough, a pharmaceutical company based a Brinny, Inishannon, Co Cork has announced it is to cut 170 jobs.

It says the reduction in staff is due to a decrease in demand for its main product.

Its parent company has also announced it wants to achieve a ten-percent reduction in payroll expenses worldwide.

Today’s announcement will bring the workforce at the company to 762.
