Iranian authorities say they have arrested the kidnappers of Irishman Aidan Leahy, who was released on Sunday after being held for three weeks.

Mr Leahy was kidnapped along with the two German men in early December while cycling in the southeast of the country near the border with Pakistan.

The kidnappers, who were believed to be either drug smugglers or members of al-Qaida, had demanded a ransom of €5m.

The Iranian government said no ransom has been paid.
