Burundi funeral for Archbishop Courtney

A funeral service for Archbishop Michael Courtney is expected to take place in Burundi, where he was killed, before his body is flown home to Ireland.

No date has yet been set.

The 58-year-old senior Vatican diplomat was gunned down yesterday when the car he was travelling in came under fire.

An investigation will be conducted into the still unclear circumstances of the incident.

The Tutsi government has accused Hutu rebels from the National Liberation Forces (NFL) of being responsible but the rebels have denied any involvement.

The NFL have been rebelling against the ruling Tutsi minority for the last decade.
