Newgrange needs protection from incinerator: An Taisce
Conservation groups are calling for the construction of a planned incinerator near the Newgrange site in Co Meath to be stopped.
An Taisce says the area is one of Europe's most significant historical sites must not be sacrificed for short term gains.
The Brú na Boinne area, near which the incinerator is to be located, is set to be recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in the near future.
An Taisce's Ian Lumley say the area is too important to leave unprotected.
"The sight, which is older than the pyramids, is of international significance.
"Now we're arguing that the protection area should be made wider and to include the Battle of the Boyne site, which was also, in European terms, a major turning point in European history."
