Advisory group to discuss fallout from CJD death
Ireland’s National CJD Advisory Group is due to meet today to discuss the fallout from the death of a British man who contracted CJD from blood donated years earlier.
The case was the first confirmed incidence of variant CJD being passed from one human to another through blood donations.
The advisory group is expected to discuss today whether it should alter Ireland’s strategy in combating vCJD in light of the new information.
The Irish Blood Transfusion Service has already called on people to continue donating blood, saying the risk of vCJD infection was very small.
