The Iranian government is working to secure the release of an Irish tourist kidnapped over a week ago, it emerged today.

The chairman of the Irish Red Cross has visited the Iranian ambassador in connection with the kidnapping and was reassured that every assistance would be given to the Irish embassies in Tehran to obtain the release of Aidan James Leahy.
