Man arrested after attempted robbery in Dublin

Gardaí in Dublin have arrested a 27-year-old man during an attempted robbery in the Palmerstown area of the city this morning.

A lone raider entered a building society on the Old Lucan Road at around 9.45am, sprayed lighter fuel over the counter and demanded cash.

The security system in the premises subsequently caused the doors to automatically close.

An off-duty garda who was passing at the time was alerted to the robbery, entered the building and arrested one man.
