The Minister for the Environment, Martin Cullen, has announced a funding package of €752m for local authorities to offset the cost of benchmarking.

Mr Cullen said the money was designed to help councils meet the cost of benchmarking pay awards. He claimed the additional funds would remove the need for local authorities to introduce service charges.
