TV licence fee to increase on January 1

The Department of Communication has reportedly sanctioned a TV licence fee increase to take effect on January 1.

Reports this morning said the increase would be around €6, which exceeds the rate of inflation.

Last year, the Government increased the licence fee by €43 to €150 and agreed to also increase it annually in line with the rate of inflation.

However, inflation is currently at 2.3%, which would only put an extra €3.45 on the licence fee.
