Rail commuters are facing the prospect of one-day stoppages in the run up to Christmas this year, with breakaway train drivers expected to serve strike notice on Iarnrod Eireann later today.

The notice is due to be served by around 100 former members of the Irish Locomotive Drivers Association who are now affiliated to the ATGWU.
