A gang of masked men burst into a house in Manor Avenue, Bangor, before attacking the 44-year-old victim. They then made off in a white car.

Police found a white Ford Escort on fire in Drumhirk Drive in the nearby Kilcooley estate shortly after the paramilitary-style attack, which occurred at 2am.

Officers arrested one man near the scene of the fire and were questioning him about the beating.

Police have also appealed for information about another man who was seen running off.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries, which also included a fractured wrist.
