Belfast firefighters come under attack

Six firefighters had to be treated for shock after coming under an air gun attack on the outskirts of west Belfast, it emerged today.

The crew was dealing with a car on fire at Aspen Walk in the Twinbrook area late last night when youths opened fire with an air pistol.

As the crew were at the scene two teenagers arrived, one of them pulled out a pistol and began firing at the officers.

No-one was injured but the incident was condemned by Assistant Divisional Officer Gabriel Ferguson.

“To be looking down the barrel of a gun is something we are not used to and we don’t want this to happen again.”
