There is a flood of complaints at the way the Northern Assembly elections are being conducted.

The polling booths opened at 7am this morning and complaints are coming from disabled and poor-sighted people who cannot get help to read their ballot papers.

In some booths, voters are being given ballot papers even if they have only the plastic part of their driving licence although in others, polling clerks are insisting on the paper part of the licence being produced.

There are also complaints about polling stations not opening on time and that close relatives are not being allowed to help the poor-sighted and elderly to fill in their ballots.

People who have applied for voter ID and have still not received their cards are also not being allowed to vote.
