ICI urges Government to stamp out racism

The Irish Government is being called on to formulate an immigration policy which will help stop racism.

The Immigration Council of Ireland (ICI) says foreign nationals now comprise 5% of the population, and it is time the State started promoting tolerance.

The call was made at the launch of a major conference aimed at creating awareness about the issues facing immigrants in this country.

Sister Stanislaus Kennedy, chair of the ICI, says we need to develop a policy which will bring people together.
