Industrial action at Cork association for handicapped
SIPTU's Mallow Branch Official, Liam Allen has said that seven SIPTU members employed at the Charleville & District Association for the Handicapped, Charleville, Co. Cork will begin industrial action on Monday, November 24, 2003, in pursuit of improved pay and conditions.
"Our members have no sick pay scheme, no pension entitlements, no incremental pay scale and are earn just over €7 an hour, compared with Care Assistants who are earning €12 to €13 an hour," said Mr. Allen.
He said that SIPTU have been trying to improve pay and conditions for members for almost three years and referred the matter to the Labour Relations Committee but were advisded to back to talks on a national level.
He also said that they could not get a date from the department of Education for a Labour Court hearing.
