Couple arrested after NI drug seizure
A man and a woman from Liverpool were arrested in Northern Ireland today when police made a seizure of drugs.
Cannabis and ecstasy with an estimated street value of £300,000 (€430,000) were discovered when police stopped and searched a car in the port of Belfast.
The couple had just got off the overnight ferry from Liverpool to Belfast when they were arrested, said a police spokeswoman.
It was the second time in days that people from England had been arrested in Northern Ireland following drug seizures.
Cannabis resin worth £250,000 (€360,000) was recovered in Larne, Co Antrim when police stopped and searched a car which had arrived on a ferry from Fleetwood on Tuesday.
Two days later grandparents Paul McSween, aged 49, and his wife Barbara, aged 51, from Lathum Close in Prescot , Merseyside appeared in court charged with possession of the drugs and possession with intent to supply.
Police alleged in court the couple had been employed as couriers for an organised crime gang.
