Police chiefs have complained about an election advertisement they believe questioned the independence of Northern Ireland Chief Constable Hugh Orde, it emerged today.

Senior officers told Policing Board chairman Professor Desmond Rea of their deep unhappiness with claims made by the nationalist SDLP.
