Teenager beaten with nail-studded baseball bat

An 18-year-old man was seriously injured in a vicious paramilitary-style attack in Derry, police said today.

He was beaten with a nail-studded baseball bat, suffering extensive injuries to the stomach, arms and legs.

Police said the man was sitting in a vehicle in a car park behind a community centre in the Kildrum area of the city last night when he was targeted.

Two masked men smashed the windscreen of his vehicle and ordered him to get out.

When he did so, they set about him with the nail-studded baseball bat, inflicting injuries which police said were serious though not life-threatening.
