O’Cuiv: 'One-off housing necessary'

Eamon O’Cuiv, the Minister for Rural Affairs, has reiterated his support for one-off housing in the countryside.

Speaking ahead of a rural development forum in Co Tipperary today, Mr O’Cuiv said one-off housing was necessary to halt population decline in rural areas.

The issue of one-off housing in rural areas is contentious in Ireland at present, with An Taisce claiming it damages the scenic attraction and environment of the countryside.

An Taisce believes new rural housing should be limited to the outskirts of existing towns and villages to prevent ribbon development in the countryside.
