An Irishman, once jailed for 22 years for plotting to kill Protestants, has been refused political asylum in the US.

Immigration Judge James Vandello ruled that former IRA member Ciaran Ferry, 30, from West Belfast, is not eligible for asylum because he committed “a serious non-political crime” that involved the persecution of others.
