Belfast al-Qaida suspect still in police custody

British detectives are continuing to question a 25-year-old Algerian man arrested in Co Antrim earlier this week on suspicion of having links to Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaida network.

The man was arrested on Monday in Maghaberry Prison, where he had been detained for six months pending his deportation.

A PSNI spokesman said yesterday that he was being questioned by detectives investigating possible plans to attack targets in the United Kingdom.

Police have until Saturday to either charge or release him.
