Boeing 707 lands safely in Shannon Aiport

The transatlantic jet en route to Miami in the US from Amsterdam this afternoon, which was forced to divert to Shannon Airport, has landed safely.

The transatlantic jet en route to Miami in the US from Amsterdam this afternoon, which was forced to divert to Shannon Airport, has landed safely.

The Boeing 707 which had 208 passengers and crew on board landed at around 3.30pm.

It is understood passengers were alarmed after detecting an odd smell on board the plane.

Emergency services had been standing by at Shannon while lifeboats and other vessels at sea off the West Coast were also on alert.
