Remains of Jean McConville laid to rest

The funeral of Jean McConville, who was abducted and murdered by the IRA 31 years ago, takes place this afternoon.

The funeral of Jean McConville, who was abducted and murdered by the IRA 31 years ago, takes place this afternoon.

Her remains are to be buried at the Holy Trinity Cemetery in Lisburn following the Requiem Mass at St Paul's Church in Belfast.

Ms McConville's body was discovered on Shelling Beach in Co Louth 10 weeks ago.

Post mortem examinations revealed she had been shot in the head.

Her daughter Helen McKendry is expected to attend the funeral despite a family rift over the arrangements.
