Gardaí find explosives in Westmeath wood

Gardaí in Co Westmeath are investigating the discovery of a cache of explosives in a wooded area near Lake Derravargh today.

The cache is believed to contain two detonators, component parts of mortar devices and half a stick of gelignite.

The objects are believed to have been in the area for some time.

Further searches are being carried out in the area and bomb disposal experts have been called to the scene.
