Kenny wants proactive Irish defence role

The Fine Gael leader, Enda Kenny, has expressed concern at how the Government is negotiating EU defence issues.

Mr Kenny says Ireland should become one of the architects of European defence plans rather than sitting on the fence, and acting as a spectator while others make decisions.

Talks are continuing on the draft constitution for the European Union at the Forum on Europe in Dublin.
