Cancer alliance criticises Radiotherapy Report

The Cancer Care Alliance, made up of patients groups, trade unions, and other organisations, has criticised the Radiotherapy Report, claiming it contains serious flaws.

According to the Alliance, the report fails to reach a balance between centralisation for specialised radiotherapy expertise needed by a minority of patients, and decentralisation, for regional access.

A consultant oncologist at Waterford Regional Hospital, Dr Paula Calvert, also said that the report’s proposal for two comprehensive cancer centres in Dublin is too vague.
