Higgins returns to Dáil
Anti-bin charge protestor Joe Higgins returned to the Dáil today, for the first time since his release from Mountjoy prison.
The Socialist Party TD served a one-month jail term for refusing to obey a court order, which prevented him from blockading bin collection lorries.
He was the first of a number of men and women jailed for the same offence.
Speaking in the Dáil he questioned the Tánaiste on the logic of jailing anti bin tax campaigners.
But Mary Harney said most of the people in Mr Higgins' area have paid their bin charges and the Government would not let protestors prevent collection of their rubbish.
