British army bomb experts have examined an apparent explosion in a phone box in Northern Ireland.

The incident happened close to a technical college at Trostan Avenue in Ballymena, Co Antrim at around 9.30pm yesterday.

As police sealed off the area a spokeswoman said: “A car was seen acting suspiciously in the area and shortly after it is understood something exploded in the phone box.”

No further details were available.
