An Irish truck driver is facing a fine of €21,000 after his vehicle was detained by British Authorities, with five Iraqi Kurds on board.

The driver was returning from Milan and had fully complied with all security procedures.

The Irish Hauliers Association say at least a dozen of their members have suffered what they describe as a heavy handed fate in the last 6 months, and are abandoning European routes as a result.

The driver of the impounded truck has refused to pay the fine.
