1,500 children suffering extreme diabetes

Over 1,500 children are suffering from extreme cases of diabetes in Ireland - and this figure will rise, it was warned today.

The Diabetes Federation of Ireland has warned diabetes is moving towards epidemic proportions in this country:.

Dr Colm Costigan of Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children announced plans for a national "game-playing" week to raise funds to treat Diabetes Retinopathy.

The condition, when left untreated, can lead to permanent loss of vision.
