Govt urged to draw attention to social issues

The Conference of Religious in Ireland has called on the Government to use its upcoming presidency of the European Union to draw attention to social issues.

CORI said the Government should press the EU to give poverty and social exclusion the same priority as economic issues, which have dominated the EU agenda since its establishment.

The call was made at a CORI meeting to discuss Ireland’s future in Europe ahead of tomorrow’s meeting of EU leaders in Rome.
