Clock ticking on NI Asembly elections
The Ulster Unionist Party has said November 13 is the last feasible date for fresh northern elections if power is to be restored to the Northern Ireland Assembly this year.
Senior party members are counting down to October 16, the date they say an agreement must be reached if elections are to take place.
Meanwhile, talks are underway between UUP leader, David Trimble and Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams with both parties gearing up for the date six weeks from next Thursday.
Speculation is that a deal between the parties is close.
One of the main issues on the table, is a change in Sein Féin’s attitude to the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
However, Gerry Adams is hinting that a commitment to devolve police justice powers to the assembly is needed before Sinn Féin will signal support for the police force.
