The Automobile Association has called on the Government to ensure that any plans to install speed cameras throughout Ireland are not abused by profit-hungry private companies.

A report into the matter has claimed that a national network of speed cameras would reduce fatal road accidents by 20% and generate almost €40m a year through fines.
