A 10-year-old boy has died in a freak accident at a football game in Co Meath.

Lee Lucchesi was standing beside the goal during the game at Navan Town’s football ground when the crossbar collapsed and struck him on the head.

He was pronounced dead in hospital a short time later. The accident happened at a game between Navan Town and Woodview Celtic of Dundalk.

The dead boy’s father was the captain of Woodview Celtic.
