Co Sligo fish kill worse than first thought
The North-Western Regional Fisheries Board has revealed that a fish kill on the River Moy in Co Sligo is worse than first thought.
The board said yesterday that between 1,500 and 2,000 adult trout and juvenile salmon had died in the upper section of the river since Sunday.
However the board said this morning that the actual death toll was more than 3,000.
Officials have traced the source of the kill to Tubbercurry stream, which joins the Moy three miles upstream from Banada.
Investigations are continuing to pinpoint the exact cause of the incident.
