Investigation launched into Sligo fish kill

The North-Western Regional Fisheries Board has launched an investigation into a fish kill on the River Moy in Co Sligo.

The board said around 1,500 to 2,000 juvenile salmon, adult trout and other species had been found dead in the upper section of the river near Banada in the past few days.

The fish are believed to have died on Sunday, though the cause of the kill remains a mystery.

The North-Western Regional Fisheries Board said it was investigating the possibility that some type of effluent may have been discharged into the river.

The River Moy is a popular spot with salmon fishermen.
