The Health and Safety Authority is reportedly planning to recommend that the Government designate second-hand smoke as a "cancer-causing agent".

The HAS said yesterday that the proposal would compel employers to ensure that they protect their employees from second-hand smoke.

Opponents of the Government’s plans to ban smoking in all Irish workplaces have argued that there is no scientific evidence proving a definite link between passive smoking and cancer.
