Govt to come under fire following Laffoy revelations
Opposition parties are expected to launch a series of attacks on the Government today following the publication of Justice Mary Laffoy’s letter of resignation from the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse.
Justice Laffoy quit the post last week, just hours after Education Minister Noel Dempsey announced plans to review the remit of her investigation.
The Government was planning to withhold her letter of resignation from the public until it had devised a response, but the document was published in a Sunday newspaper yesterday.
In it, Justice Laffoy accused the Government of continually delaying her inquiry and failing to provide the resources needed for it to fulfil its mandate from the Oireachtas.
Speaking last night, Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny said the letter was a damning indictment of the Government’s incompetence.
