SIPTU votes in favour of strike action at Aer Rianta

SIPTU members in Aer Rianta have voted in favour of industrial action following a ballot which took place today.

The move follows the announcement by Transport Minister, Seamus Brennan, to break up the company.

The union’s airport members voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action.

The result of the ballot showed support of 85% for action.

SIPTU Aviation Branch Secretary at Shannon, Tony Kenny, said: "Following the minister’s decision, we sought guarantees regarding our member’s terms and conditions of employment.

"Unfortunately, Aer Rianta were not able to give us those so we had no alternative but to ballot our members."
