3Com to close Dublin plant with loss of 600 jobs
The US multinational 3Com is reportedly planning to close its manufacturing operation in Dublin with the loss of more than 600 jobs.
Reports this morning said the computer firm was planning to break the news to staff at its Blanchardstown plant in the coming days.
3Com has received €17m in funding from the Industrial Development Authority since it opened the plant in 1990, but it has reported significant losses in the past few years.
The company is reportedly planning to maintain a small research and development facility in Blanchardstown, while moving its manufacturing operation to a cheaper location in eastern Europe or Asia.
