Belfast Lord Mayor facing defeat after Spellar snub

Belfast Lord Mayor Martin Morgan was today facing a knife-edge vote over his decision to boycott events involving a British government minister.

The nationalist SDLP mayor was heading towards an embarrassing defeat at tonight’s city council meeting over a motion from hard-line Unionists condemning his plans to snub events involving Northern Ireland Office minister John Spellar.
