Religious order apologises to Neary victims
The Medical Missionaries of Mary have issued a statement apologising to the women whose wombs were unnecessarily removed by Dr Michael Neary at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, Co Louth.
The religious order, which ran the hospital at the time of the operations, has also called for an inquiry into how and why the scandal was not detected for several years.
Dr Neary, who worked as an obstetrician in the Drogheda hospital for 20 years, was struck off the medical register earlier this year after being found guilty of misconduct for removing the wombs of 10 women.
