Three arrested in Continuity IRA probe
Three men have been arrested in Britain as part of an operation into the Continuity IRA and criminal activity in Ireland, gardaí said.
They were arrested in Morecambe, Lancashire, yesterday after a number of weapons were found at commercial premises.
The operation was part of an investigation into criminal activity in Limerick and the activities of dissident republicans.
During the search three firearms, two handguns and a rifle were found.
The arrests came after a joint investigation by gardaí and the Lancashire force.
A number of arrests have been made in Limerick in recent months in connection with suspected dissident republican activity.
In one of the longest trials at Dublin’s Special Criminal Court earlier this year one man was convicted of Continuity IRA membership in the town, while six others were cleared.
