Fischler: 'CAP reform is final EU position'

EU Agriculture Commissioner Franz Fischler has told Irish farmers that the CAP reforms ratified by European ministers earlier this year will represent the EU's bottom line at upcoming World Trade Organisation negotiations.

EU Agriculture Commissioner Franz Fischler has told Irish farmers that the CAP reforms ratified by European ministers earlier this year will represent the EU's bottom line at upcoming World Trade Organisation negotiations.

Speaking in Co Kildare, Mr Fischler promised that farmer' incomes would not fall as a result of the WTO talks in Doha later this year.

He also said he didn't believe that up to 10,000 Irish farmers could be forced out of business by the reform of the EU's Common Agriculture Policy.
