The 32-year-old mother from the Ballybay area gave birth to a girl while on her way to Cavan General Hospital after a local GP called an ambulance for her.

A midwife and doctor were called, and assistied in the ambulance.

The mother and daughter were taken to Cavan, and both reported to be doing well.

A local group has been campaigning to have maternity services restored at Monaghan General Hospital, following the death of baby Bronagh Livingstone last December.
