Gardaí in Dublin, Cork and Clare arrested 17 asylum seekers over the weekend as part of a crackdown on people suspected of abusing the asylum system.

The 17 detainees, who are from west Africa and eastern Europe, are suspected of applying for asylum under false names after their original applications were rejected.
